Harry Buerer, instructor

Harry Buerer, the creator and primary instructor for Barbershop Academy, is a member of the Portland Metro Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society. He has been chapter Music VP, and is currently the tenor section leader of the Bridge Town Sound chorus, as well as singing in the quartet Signature. In 2006 he took the initiative in creating the... successful chapter education program, Bridge Town Sound University, and in teaching many of the music theory classes in its curriculum.

In 2002 Harry was the sole winner of the BHS Lou Perry contest, a competition among unpublished Barbershop arrangers worldwide, the prize for which was a scholarship to Harmony College. While there he studied with noted arrangers Burt Szabo and the late Val Hicks. Harry's arrangements have been sung by both men's and women's quartets and by his home chorus, Bridge Town Sound.

Harry received an M.A in Music Ministry from Western Seminary in Portland, Oregon, where he currently resides with his wife, Suzy, and three dogs. He is the choir director at Cedar Hills Baptist Church in Portland, where he has been since 2001.
